MAN MACHINE POEM TOUR PHOTOS BY TOM PANDI
The Tragically Hip announced in May 2016 that they would tour Canada in the midst of Gord Downie’s battle against cancer. From coast to coast to coast, fans gathered to raise a glass and sing along to the borrowed narrative of our youth, to revel in the songs that explain us the way we never could, to be spoken to in a language only we can understand, to be together as our national house band set out on its most memorable national stand. We sang along to each soulful refrain. We danced like only Gord can dance. We screamed ourselves hoarse for one more encore, one more song, one more moment blessed with the indescribable sound of home. We will lower slowly, sadly, and properly. We will get Ry Cooder to sing our eulogy – the Man Machine Poem tour was surely a celebration of the soundtrack of our lives.
Thank you for an unforgettable tour. Now it’s our turn to give back to a band who has given us 30+ years of music and memories. When the news of Gord’s health became public, fans of The Tragically Hip Fan Forum on Facebook felt the urgency to help. We offered treasured band memorabilia to be auctioned off with all proceeds going to Sunnybrook Foundation. This passion spread country wide to include pre-concert fundraiser parties, and together this group of fans raised almost $50,000 in just 2 months!
To continue our fundraising effort, we have some big plans, so check back often for more details. Our Gift Shop includes awesome merchandise designed by Tragically Hip fans, which will continually be refreshed with new ideas. All proceeds will continue to support the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research – but we also acknowledge Gord’s recent project, Secret Path, and his humility, sincerity and determination to tell the story of all youths from the residential school era who never made it home. Given Gord’s commitment and devotion to this cause, we have also added support for the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund and the Gord Downie Secret Path Fund for Truth and Reconciliation.

NO DRESS REHEARSAL, THIS IS OUR LIFE
IF THERE’S ANYTHING WE CAN LEARN FROM GORD DOWNIE, THE HIP, AND THEIR LEGACY, REMEMBER TO LIVE. BECAUSE AFTER ALL, “NO ONE’S INTERESTED IN SOMETHING YOU DIDN’T DO.”
