The most powerful stories are true stories. Gord Downie's Secret Path follows the story of a young Indigenous boy, Chanie Wenjack, who died trying to escape the Cecilia Jeffrey Residential School near Kenora, ON. Chanie fled the school in hopes of returning home 400 miles away. He never made it.
Inspired by this story and Gord's humility, sincerity, and determination to tell the story of all youths from the residential school era who never made it home, Leanne Mackle of Rescue Designs created this one-of-a kind piece, called "Isolation", which includes an abstract Ojibwe Thunderbird to highlight the isolation that exists in our northern Aboriginal communities.
In celebration of the release of Secret Path, we are thrilled to add this unique artwork to the Courage For Gord Online Auction. Please note that Saturday October 22, 2016 is the 50th anniversary of Chanie Wenjack's death. We will temporarily suspend the online auction that day as a way to commemorate his life and honour the solemnity of this occasion.

Inspired by the Secret Path story and Gord Downie's humility, sincerity, and determination to tell the story of all youths from the residential school era who never made it home, members from the Courage For Gord Foundation team and documentary photographer, Joel Clements embarked on a spiritual journey called #walkforwenjack. To learn more about the walk, please visit Walk For Wenjack.
This picture frame measures 27" (L) x 17" (W) x 1 1/4" (D) and includes a signed photograph by Joel Clements and a beautifully written poem by Lesley-Anne Evans.
Lesley-Anne is a Belfast born poet whose work holds her perplexity, doubts, and a growing desire to celebrate the sacred in everything. Lesley-Anne holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, and is continuing studies in spiritual direction and art therapy. In 2015, Lesley-Anne wrote her first libretto, Lake of Tears, commissioned by Opera Kelowna to a score by renown composer Imant Raminsh, and premiered in February 2016. Evans's work is published widely, and she has performed at many venus and events. In her curatorial role with Metro Community, a street level ministry in Kelowna, Lesley-Anne engages with marginalized poets and artists in the belief that creative expression is a transformative process.
Courage For Gord Foundation is honoured to be collaborating with Lesley-Anne Evans and Joel Clements on this unique project. It is our sincere hope that this frame be displayed in your home with humility and will be used to help tell the story that this country needs to hear.

In recognition of the Secret Path concert in Halifax and the Courage For Gord Fan Fundraiser, Karyn Ruiz of Lilliput Hats is once again generously donating one of her iconic hats. This time, completely customized exclusively for the winner, in any size, colour and style.
Karyn's hats for the Courage For Gord Online Auctions have included a vibrant purple with 100% rabbit fur felt designed in the same shade specifically designed for Gord Downie during the Man Machine Poem concert dates in Toronto. Another hat included similar ribbon and feathers that Karyn hand-picked for Gord's other hats used on the same tour.
Whether you decide on a similar style worn by Gord Downie or you choose a design to reflect your own personal style, Karyn is available for a consultation to design your next hat.
This hat has been created and generously donated by Karyn Ruiz, who has been the driving force behind Lilliput Hats, an atelier and boutique in Toronto for over 20 years.
Karyn used the same mould as was used for the six original hats custom-made for Gord Downie. This hat is 100% rabbit fur felt, hand-blocked (moulded) on a vintage wooden block. The shape has been somewhat modified, as Karyn did not feel comfortable replicating Gord's hats to exact standard.
Also, Karyn adjusted the height of the crown and made the head size more neutral in the hope that it would fit a more standard head size for a male or a female. (This can be further adjusted to fit the winner of this auction.) The ribbon around the hat and the feathers are not unlike some of the elements Karyn hand-picked for Gord's hats, although many of Gord's feathers are one-offs. Further, a bit of orange was added to reflect the colour used for the #chaniewenjack Truth Hope t-shirt movement.
Finally, also included inside the hat are lyrics from "Done and Done":
Done and done
If I had a wish
I'd wish for more of this
We are thrilled to add this unique item to the the Courage For Gord Online Auction. Created in the spirit of Gord Downie, and as iconic as the ones he wore so beautifully on the Man Machine Poem tour, this beautiful hat will be on display in Ottawa at the Courage For Gord Fundraiser Event on October 18th. Details here.
Numerous artists have worn incredible Izzy Camilleri custom designs on the stage, but none more iconic than the metallic suits worn by Gord Downie during the historic Man Machine Poem Tour in 2016.
Generously donated by Izzy, this one of a kind women's jacket was created in the spirit and same materials of the metallic leather suits worn by Gord during the Man Machine Poem Tour. One of the inspirations for his tour pieces was a jean jacket, which is in keeping with Gord's overall style, and has been presented in the design of this piece. The jacket is 100% leather and is unlined, which is how Gord wanted his wardrobe for the stage.
Women's Size: Bust 38.50" and bottom of jacket (upper hip) 36.50"
